Due to Hawaii’s naturally beautiful location, the Honolulu Marathon has become a favorite for first-time marathoners and international runners (most from Japan). The start line is located at Ala Moana Beach Park on Ala Moana Blvd. and beings at 5 AM. The racecourse travels through downtown Honolulu, Iolani Palace and the Christmas lights, Waikiki and around Diamond Head, through Kahala and Hawaii Kai, and then back toward Honolulu to the finish at Kapiolani Park. Overall the terrain is level except for some uphill grades near Diamond Head.
After the race, the finish area includes post race food (freshly made malasadas, bananas, and bagels). And the marathon awards ceremony beings at 1:00 PM at the Bandstand in Kapiolani Park.
Most Waikiki hotels are within walking distance from Kapiolani Park, but Honolulu Marathon shuttle services are also available throughout race day.
